Academic writing in high school and college differs significantly in terms of expectations, depth, and complexity. In high school, writing assignments typically focus on demonstrating comprehension of the material, often following a structured format with clear guidelines. The primary goal is to ensure that students grasp basic writing skills and can articulate their thoughts coherently.Maddalena's essay on "The Importance of Rhetorical Awareness in Academic Writing" highlights how college students must be adept at recognizing and employing various rhetorical strategies to effectively communicate their arguments (Maddalena 45). while high school writing lays the foundation for academic skills, college writing builds on this foundation by challenging students to engage more deeply with content, think critically, and contribute original ideas to scholarly discussions.
